Sammi Hanratty's A Christmas Carol
BY Arooba Kazmi
Published: December 05, 2009
Walt Disney’s Pictures presents a sensational and family-packed 3-D motion production, "A Christmas Carol." The film is adapted from the novel "A Christmas Carol," written by the British author Charles Dickens, which is also directed by the filmmaker Robert Zemeckis who is known for Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, and Polar Express. This film is the third fantasy-fiction after "Mickey’s Christmas Carol," and "The Muppet Christmas Carol". The film stars Jim Carrey in multiple roles including Ebenezer Scrooge, Tiny Tim and more. Other actors include Robin Wright Penn, and even Sammi Hanratty.
The film opens with a contemptible, infamous and an utterly greedy man money lender named Ebenezer Scrooge, dressed in the most rugged and dreadful appearance. Scrooge makes the foolish decision by staying at home alone, instead of enjoying a Christmas dinner with his nephew Fred and his beloved family. As the night-time approaches, a creepy and frightening ghost of Jacob Marley (his business assistant) appears informing Scrooge that if he remains in his current life-style, then destiny will bring him only depression and that three apparitions will be haunting him the entire night, so they can lead Scrooge to the right path.
The Ghost of the Christmas Past shows Scrooge the awful childhood Scrooge had gone through. When he starts his occupation as a money lender, Scrooge becomes engaged to a beautiful woman named Bell, who prevents the engagement from coming into play at the end. With evil doings that Scrooge does, he is ultimately hated by those who know him. Eventually, Scrooge’s funeral was held for which people come for the purpose of food rather than blessing his soul. Nevertheless, Scrooge demands a second chance and turns himself into a person with pure virtues, kindness, and benevolence.
"A Christmas Carol" captures the true emotions and grasps the supernatural essence in each scene. It is engaging and a beautiful modification of the book. Viewers are able to take part in the movie and also visualize each scenario from their point of view.
The costuming of all the characters was extraordinary as it their appearances were a perfect match for their personality and character traits.
The film brings great depth for the audience because a theme is conveyed and life-learning lessons are hidden beneath the true meaning of the events that had occurred to Scrooge. The influence and motivation of parents during childhood is highly essential because it impacts adulthood.
Just follow your dreams and make the best of every day, because you don’t know what’s in store for you, until that time comes. Sometimes people need a second chance, so head over to your nearest theatre and watch "A Christmas Carol!"
1. What role do you play in the film and what do you admire most about your character?
I play a few roles in A Christmas Carol: Beggar Boy / Young Cratchit Girl / Want Girl. I admire the characteristics of my character, Young Cratchit Girl for her love of her family.
2. What was your most memorable experience when shooting this film? Why?
Everything! It was so amazing to see everything that goes into making a motion capture film. It was also a dream come true working with Jim Carrey!
3. What was your favorite part about the movie? Why?
Working with the incredibly talented cast. Also, seeing the finished movie was just so cool!
4. What would you like to share and tell your fans?
Follow your dreams and enjoy where life takes you!
5. Besides acting, what do you like to do during your free time?
I like to hang out with friends, doing just about anything. I just got a horse, so I'm looking forward to spending lots of time riding him!!
6. What movies are you going to be a part of in the near future?
I just finished a family film called The Greening of Whitney Brown. I play a spoiled pre-teen from Philadelphia, who is forced to move to the country when her parents feel the squeeze of economic hard times. A fish out of water, far from her comfort zone, she befriends an amazing horse, and undertakes a misguided journey back to her old life, only to discover that her family is her home. My parents are played by Brooke Shields and Aidan Quinn, and my grandfather is played by Kris Kristofferson. It was such an amazing experience!!
